September 09, 2008: Microsoft Says Goodbye To Laser While Apple Rocks It Out
September 9, 2008 is definitely filled with events that will rock the tech world. These are the events to watch out today:
Today, Microsoft will reveal what they dubbed as a device that says goodbye to the laser technology. Since the annoucement was made over Microsoft’s Hardware website, it is quite evident that the product will involve something that influences our interaction with the computer.
Upon hearing such announcement, most were excited to know what it is, however, the suspense seems to have vanished when a Engadget reader spotted a mouse over at Amazon Germany. This device is rumored to utilize a blue-LED coupled with a wide-angle lens (diffuser perhaps?) and has the same logo from the teaser embossed on its front. Such scheme will enable this new mouse to work over surfaces that common optical mouse wouldn’t work, such as glass and uneven surfaces.
Another big event today would be the Let’s Rock event by Apple in Yerba Buena Center For The Art Theatre, San Francisco. What would you think would be announced at the event? New Ipod models? Price cut on the Iphone perhaps? I’m sure you are one with me in awaiting the results of these events. I just hope there will be new models of Macbooks that will be announced. Just wishing though.

Cellphone Popcorn Is A Hoax
A couple of days ago, I have received an email containing a link to a video wherein a group places unpopped kernels of popcorn in the table center, then around it they placed their cellphones. The mobile phones were so arranged so that the top part seems to concentrate or beam the signals directly to the popcorn kernels. They then call their mobile phone and once they ring, the popcorns popped up into the air. Seemingly convincing at first, but right after watching it you know there is a trick behind it. First, here is the video of the cellphone popcorn:
Now here’s a video explaining how it was possibly done, and I strongly believe such method were used in the video above.

Google Chrome Browser: First Impressions

Upon reading what Google chrome would offer, I was one of those eagerly waiting to try it out; constantly searching and refreshing what seemed to be the first available download link for it. About an hour ago, Google has made the download link for Google Chrome live, and you could also see it advertised on Google homepage (not in country specific Google sites though, just on it’s main homepage). Linux and Mac users would have to wait for a while since the installer is only for Windows.

Why Google Chrome Is Better Than IE
Google is set to release its own open source web browser on 09/02/2008 called Google Chrome. Learning from current web browser trends, Google Chrome will take a different approach on how traditional web browers were designed, avoiding pitfalls that plague today’s web browsers, such as uncontrolled memory leaks which tend to crash the entire browser even when only one tab is affected.

Never Miss A New Email With The Physical Gmail Notifier
I was searching for a way to modify the Gmail Notifier code to suit my needs, and my search has brought me over to Jamie Matthew’s site wherein he really re-engineered the Gmail notifier. Instead of the usual desktop application that watches over your Gmail account for new activity, his invention literally flashes a cube-like device to alert you that a new mail has arrived.
