Flickering Pages In IE7 Under Vista Ultimate

August 21, 2008 · Filed Under Internet Explorer, Microsoft, Windows Vista

I’m using Vista Ultimate for several months now without problems until this morning. While using Internet Explorer 7, I’ve noticed that some websites’ flicker, especially when the page comes loaded with flash advertisements. At first, it doesn’t really bother me, and I’ve thought that it was just an isolated case with the sites I’ve visit, but the problem became severe and it is very irritating, especially if you scroll the pages frequently. When the problem became worst, the flickering seems to sync with the way you scroll the pages. At this point in time, I’ve decided it’s now time to find a cure for this problem.

While Firefox was also installed in my PC, I was quick to reset all Internet Explorer related settings back to default and clear all histories of browsing activities, before I can even isolate it with Firefox . After this, Internet Explorer 7 became normal again, with all the flickering gone, but do take note of all your customized IE7 settings as doing a reset with return it back to default. Affected settings would depend on the manner that you have customized IE7.

Before the problem became apparent, I’ve just upgraded the ATI Catalyst drivers in my PC from v8.6 to v8.7 (I’m using a ATI Radeon HD 3200), but I also remember receiving several Windows Vista updates a week before. Any of these could have caused the problem, and I’m glad a simple reset would do the trick.
