I’m Starting To Like Windows Vista!

July 18, 2008 · Filed Under Microsoft, Technology, Windows Vista

Windows XP was serving my computing needs fairly well and I have no complaints regarding it’s performance. Even with the availability of Windows Vista, Windows XP remains the standard Operating System being used in our corporate machines (even for newly rolled-out Dell computers). But one unfortunate incident happened to my home computer. It suddenly died on me. I have no choice but to buy a new set of motherboard, processor and memory. Basically, everything in my home PC was replaced.

As i shop for a new computer hardware, I came around various choices and ended up getting a Emaxx 780G-pro. I’ll cover my PC setup adventure in my next article, but for now, let’s go back to Windows Vista.

Naturally, a new computer hardware means increased performance at a lower price. I tried installing Windows XP to the said motherboard. It works fine, but I just felt that using XP on a system that runs at 2.4GHz doesn’t bring out it’s true power and potential. So I installed WIndows Vista Ultimate edition instead, and these are my personal experience with Windows Vista.

Fast Bootup Time

Upon power-up, WIndows Vista in my computer is ready even before a minute is up. No kidding!

Superb Animations

I have tried Vista before, and I can say that the graphics and animations are superb. But the hardware that I have tested it on just doesn’t bring out the true beauty of Windows Aero and other stuff inside Vista, and this is what I am enjoying right now. Installed in a capable computer, Windows Aero is truly an eye-candy.

Windows Search

I really like the new Windows Search that is integrated with Vista. Results comes out fast and you’ll get what you find in almost no time at all.

Separate Volume Mixer

Vista Sound Mixer

As you can see, the sound mixer controls in Windows Vista allows you to individually control the sound levels from various sound sources in your PC, including instant messeging sounds. In the past, events like someone buzzing me thru Yahoo Messenger scares the byte out of me, as I usually crank the volume in my PC while listening to the media player. Now, I can simply mute or set the volume at a minimal level. Simply superb!

Conclusion

I’m sure with my early adoption of Vista, I haven’t explored all of its capabilities, yet I can really say that computing hasn’t this much been enjoyable for me until Vista came.

Whatever you read and hear around the net about Vista being bulky and slow, and this and that, the bottomline is, try it out yourself. No offense meant, but I can conclude that most of those who are not happy with Vista either doesn’t have the necessary hardware to run it, or just too busy to learn something new.
