Gmail Remote Sign Out Review
I’ve just recently published about Gmail’s new Remote Sign Out feature and since then, I have patiently waited for Google to update the servers where my Gmail account is connected. This morning, when I logged into my Gmail account, I have seen the update and here’s my review.
Test 1: Single Gmail Account Login Test
For this test, I made sure that my Gmail account is not logged-in somewhere then I logged in my Gmail account using my main computer then scrolled to the very bottom of the screen. The picture below shows the basic information about my last Gmail account activity:
As you can see, the basic information contains the last time stamp when you have logged-into your Gmail account plus the IP address where the access was made from.
Let’s click the details tab, and we see this:
The details link contains more information such as the Date and Time of Access, the IP address and the type of platform where the access was made from (browser, mobile or POP3). It also said that y Gmail account is not open in another location.
Test 2: Multiple Gmail Login Scenario
For this test, I logged-into my Gmail account from another computer then from the computer that I have used in Test1, I clicked on the details link again. This is what the notifier tells me:
As we can see, my Gmail account is open in another location. In this case, I may have forgotten to log out from my previous Gmail session OR someone is using your Gmail account without your permission.
In this case, we can force log-off all instances of our Gmail account and for added security, immediately change your Gmail password.
Conclusion
The Gmail remote sign-out is a much needed (and welcomed) addition aside from all the other features that Gmail already has. With this, Gmail just gets getting better and better.

Say What's On Your Mind Now!

Update:
This feature doesn’t work using IE6 as your browser.
How do I stop my gmail info from continuing on my former home computer. I am no longer at that address yet when I log into that comp. it shows thousands of emails from the last date I was there. Can I delete all acct. info on that computer?
Thanks!
@Lisa Kieger –
Did you happen to tick on the “remember me on this computer” option? If yes, you could try clearing all your saved information by going to Tools –> Delete Browsing History (IE7).
If you think that you wont be needing that Gmail email address anymore as well as all the email attachments there, I could say that you could delete that account info, otherwise, contact a qualified computer tech to do the backup first before deleting information.
Very nice feature… but it doesn’t work with IE6 (and maybe with other browsers).
You can use the direct url of the page!
Follow these steps:
1) change your browser’s user agent string (eg use “Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1)”), close the browser and reopen it in order the change to take effect. From now your browser will be identified as IE7
2) Log in to Gmail with your account, et voilà, “Last account activity” is available on the bottom of the page. You click it and the popup opens. Save the url of this page, which will work on all browsers, then undo the changes you made to the user agent string of IE6 and restart the browser.
When you are logged onto Gmail and you need the “Last account activity” page, simply use the url you previously saved.
sorry for the messed-up pictures. I’ve just upgraded wordpress to a higher version.
Quite a few users have noticed that once they use the new feature for signing out of remote locations, it pretty much trashes the Gmail Notifier program for good. The notifier says “An error has occurred. Cannot read your messages. (bad data; 1)”
