Webhosting with free privacy protection
I’m pretty sure you are aware that there are plenty of resources and guides on the Internet on how to choose the right webhosting company. Aside from those guides, listed here are my personal tips to help you out.
Tips:
1. Check out their forums. It is from actual users that you can gauge the quality of service that a webhosting company is providing its clients. You can make a search for terms like “very slow”, “unreachable”, “unrealiable”, etc. A word of warning though. Not all comments there are true. Some forum threads are purposedly written to discourage future clients from subscribing.
2. Value for your privacy. This is the most compelling reason why I chose Bluehost, because my personal details are never exposed to the outside world for others to see.
What do I mean by this?
Try a simple whois into someone elses’ website and you will get the following info:
Whois xxx.com
Domain Name………. xxxx.com
Creation Date…….. 200x-10-15
Registration Date…. 200x-10-15
Expiry Date………. 200x-10-15
Tracking Number…… xxxxxxxxx-LROR
Organisation Name…. xxxxxx xxxxxx
Organisation Address. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Organisation Address. xxxxxxxxxxxx
Organisation Address. Quezon City
Organisation Address. 1×00

Organisation Address. PHILIPPINES
Admin Name……….. Bxxc Sxxxxxa

Admin Fax…………
Wow! So much personal info is exposed! I’d say it is an open invitation for stalking.
Now try a whois into my website www.byteburn.com and all you get is the following:
Whois www.byteburn.com
Registrant:
BlueHost.Com, POWERFUL WEB HOSTING - 30GB Disc - 750GB Transfer
Registered through: BlueHost.com
Domain Name: BYTEBURN.COM
Domain servers in listed order:
NS1.BLUEHOST.COM
NS2.BLUEHOST.COM
As you can see, all my personal info is hidden from public view. The great thing about this privacy protection feature from Bluehost is that it is free!
All these great features doesn’t come without a snag though. There are times that access is slow, but I would commend
Bluehost’ technical support staff for being helpful and quick to resolve the issues I encounter. This brings me to tip #3.
3. Qualified and capable support staff. During the first few days since I have launched this website, I am a big fan of Bluehost’ technical support. My issue regarding a slow FTP session was quickly resolved by their agent, and among other countless queries, their support staff are quick and very responsive.
There you have it. Hope this short guide will help you in your search for your webhost.
