Sony Ericsson K800i vs Nokia N73, which is better?
For about 2 weeks now, I am still puzzled of what to get between the two. I really like the K800i, even more after Sony Ericsson has released the K800i in brown color.
As quoted from another site:
If the standard black and grey color of the K800i is not enough for you, Sony Ericsson will be releasing the K800i in chocolate brown color. The brown color would initially be available in the Hongkong and Taiwan region, then after that, it would flow all over asia.
Yes guys, the brown K800i is now available in Manila, and this fact alone makes choosing what to get between the two even tougher than before.
I have made some research and found out that in Esato forum, the vote goes to Nokia N73, with most of the users saying that Nokia N73 is better and more applications can be loaded into it (hey, the N73 is a smartphone, and smartphones need lots of apps to run it).
Some would say that the K800i has a fragile camera cover that is likely to be easily damaged. Another issue would be the cramped keypad design that would surely make typing SMS messages hard.
For those users who have actually used either K800i or the N73, I wanna hear your story. Help me make up my mind. ![]()

Say What's On Your Mind Now!

I have been using the k800i and so far I think it’s fine.
The camera cover is not fragile as mentioned unless you drop it I think any mobile phone would be fragile.
The control pad is fine. I found no trouble using it at all. In fact I think the n73 control pad may be not so good as my brother in USA also read in an article that they rushed to produce it and is not complete.
Those 2 comments of how the k800i is not good I found is not the issue.
The only problem I found is that it was slightly slow especially when connecting to internet connections.
The program to install is not user-friendly. it’s not a simple 1 click set up.
The menu and functions are not user-friendly. It takes some time to get used to it. The k800i does go to specific functions and setups but it takes some time to click here and there before you are able to get to where you want. What I’m saying is k800i does go in to details when the n73 provides more of the general important functions and that’s what makes it more easy to use.
The video quality for k800i is considered weak. It’s a small size when the n73 is much better.
The photo quality may be similar but the k800i video is just weak.
The k800i has a cybershot but it’s only using a normal camera lens which I’m wondering if that still makes it any good or not… when the n73 has a Carl Seize lens but no cybershot. Of course the special lens should make a big difference but without the word cybershot I wonder does it make the k800i have any advantage to that or not?
I think for taking photos though the k800i does have a real flash unlike the n73 which still uses a lead that can be used as a torch, I think most of the pictures we usually take are in day time anyways and if we take the night shots we are usually surrounded with brightlights anyways. Even with a professional camera but if taking in dark places I still say the picture may not be that attractive anyways. Plus I find it rare fo the occasions.
Please let me know if I’m right or not.
I’m just saying from my experience of using my Sony Ericsson K800I for about 2 months and from what I’ve been reading on other websites and comparing them from the store.
Thanks for leaving a comment. 1 point for the K800i
