How to quickly unplug or eject USB devices

August 26, 2006 · Filed Under Miscellaneous tips

The USB port is no doubt the most widely used computer interface today, as devices such as memory card readers, MP3 players, cellular phones, personal digital assistants, and other countless USB devices have become part of our daily life.

Now, I have noticed that most people unplug a USB device via right-clicking the USB icon in the taskbar, then select the particular device, then press stop. While in practice this is ok (as a contrast to those who just pull-out the USB device, which I don’t recommend!), it requires a total of three (3) clicks to perform (and you have to wait long before the dialog box appears).

My tip on how to quickly remove a USB device is to left-click on the USB icon, then select stop. That’s it! A total of two (2) clicks and you are done.

Now, isn’t that a faster way to unplug your USB flashdrive, MP3 player, USB memory card or cellphone?
